Joined Dec 17, 2002 Messages 147 Hi, need some help about the Celestion speakers. What I use now is 100W SPL and a 2x12 cab with G12H-100`s.Have done some a/b with the 2x12 V30`s,but I couldn`t say they are better, both G12H and V30 have good and bad sides. But recently I tested my friends cabinet with Greenbacks and liked it a lot. I`ve done some search in forum and found out that everybody praises the G12H30 reissues.Don`t have a chance to test them, though. So there`s 2 questions I have: 1.Will two G12H30`s just handle the 100W Marshall amp?(I can`t afford a 4x12 cab for transporting purposes mostly) 2.How different GH12-30 and GH12-100 could sound? Is the difference only in watts or there`s someting else? 100`s have a large cup in front of the speaker, that must really cut the highs,I suppose. Thanks for any help! S

Still I`d like to get some comments about the sound difference between G12H-30 and 100 before I`m gonna buy them. Reddart

If you pull 2 tubes, you would put the selector on 8 ohms for a 16 ohm speaker load, and 4 ohms for an 8ohm speaker load. DrewB

When I ordered my Avatar G212H cab, I had them wire it for 16 ohms mono. I have two 8-ohm Celestion G12Hs in mine. I wouldn't think of running a Marshall 100 flat-out into my cabinet; it's only 60 watts of power handling. As far as the G12H-30 vs. G12H-100, I'm sorry but I have no idea. K

I wouldn't worry about the wattages - at the wattage (60) it would take to damage those speakers, you'd be above "band" level. Celestion seems to rate thier speakers pretty conservatively, as people have ran Greenbacks with 100w Plexi's running full-tilt for years, and never popped a speaker - those same Plexi's could be peaking 180w... So, wattage wise, I'd not even bother yanking tubes. But, if this helps - half the tubes = half the impedance. You must log in or register to reply here.
